Dr. Ashley Britton—Mental Health Awareness and Blood Pressure Symposium
Dr. Ashley Britton is a licensed clinical psychologist specializing in Behavioral Medicine and Health Psychology. She earned her PhD in Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in health psychology from the University of Georgia. Dr. Britton completed her Clinical Health Psychology residency at Henry Ford Health System in Detroit, MI, and a Fellowship in Clinical Psychology/Behavioral Medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC.
In 2019, Dr. Britton joined the clinical faculty of East Carolina University’s Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Medicine. At the outpatient clinic, she conducts pre-surgical psychological evaluations and provides therapy for various life transitions. On the medical wards at ECU Health Medical Center, she provides psychological care at the bedside, for new and chronic medical conditions. Her research focuses on behavioral medicine interventions for managing chronic health conditions and addressing social determinants of health. Currently, she is studying the impact of pre-surgical quality of life on post-surgical outcomes in transplant and bariatric populations, including readmission risks.
In her multifaceted role, Dr. Britton delivers high-quality direct patient care while also supervising, mentoring, and instructing psychology interns, psychiatry residents, and medical students. She serves as the Program Director for the Clinical Health Psychology Fellowship and the Clinical Training Liaison for the Health Psychology Service at the outpatient psychiatry clinic. Before joining ECU, she worked briefly in a private group practice, providing psychological and psychoeducational assessments for patients of all ages.
