  1. hydrotherapy is still used in modern times, just very differently. It is effective but in the way its shown here it wasn’t, it was just cruel. However the realism of this is debatable as most photos i see of hydrotherapy seem very chilled out, some not even locked in.

  2. it’s not degrees. It’s Celsius. Celsius is hotter or colder than degrees by, I’d say 3 times. Idrk but i think. Also this is illegal and you can die. Even if this isn’t real, I feel very uncomfortable with saying nothing about this.

  3. This was called hydrotherapy. In the show the goal was to cure the patients homosexual tendencies.

In real life, hydrotherapy was used as a form of mental and physical medicine. The idea was that the water will fill any cracks and imperfections in the body and flush out illness or wounds (because water is pure and healthy is the natural state of the human body) in the form of puff, inducing a crisis.

In the 19th and 20th century, hydrotherapy had became a semi popular way to treat mental illness and alcoholism and was even recommended by doctors and therapists. (Should be noted it didn't often look like this)
This did incoude homosexuality which was considered a psychological disorder

  4. It's from a series called Ratched
The girl in the tub was a lesbian and since it's set 1947 homosexuality is still thought to be a sickness that can be cured
It's not a treatment for psychosis what kind of ai shit is this

  5. I remember a book they made us read back in elementary school about a sick boy who got "treatment" for his illness that involved putting him in an oven and "boiling the illness away", as a kid I thought it was so stupid I didn't even finish reading it 😭
