Increased screen time could be damaging to kids’ mental health l FOX 10 Phoenix
Summer break has started for thousands of students across Arizona and that means more free time to potentially spend scrolling on Instagram and TikTok.
That added time on their devices could be damaging their mental health. It’s not just kids watching their favorite shows or playing games, or how-to videos, but the constant use of social media in their lives that can have a large impact.
A study led by a UCSF children’s hospital doctor found that as children increased their social media use, there was also a 35% average rise in symptoms of depression. These can be feelings of sadness, loneliness, loss of energy, even a loss of appetite and trouble sleeping.
The study focused on children starting at age 9, finding the average social media time was only about 7 to 10 minutes a day. Then at age 13, it went up to 70 minutes a day.

Good thing all school programs have kids staring at screens to do homework then…people talk the talk but not one of you walks the talk
