How can we improve the mental health of older adults?

Speakers: Carolyn Chew-Graham, Tom Kingstone and Tamsin Fisher

Depression and anxiety are common in older adults, and they are less likely to consult primary care with symptoms, have their difficulties recognised, or be referred (or self-refer) to NHS Talking Therapies. Comorbid anxiety and depression worsen the outcomes of long-term physical conditions.
The team will present a summary of their research exploring the role of ‘non-traditional providers’ in the identification of anxiety and depression and support of older people with mental health difficulties. They will make recommendations to improve the mental health of older adults across the health and social care system working with community organisations.
