The Mental Health Shift We All Need | Maytal Eyal | TEDxUTAustin
We are currently facing a global mental health crisis. Why is it that current mental health models are not enough? Maytal speaks on how the onus of mental healthcare needs to fall not just onto the individuals but more so onto our existing social environments. How can mental health professionals truly help people if they are only able to give people tools to cope with and succumb to a system that is broken and failing them? As a society, we must re-evaluate and redesign our environments to encourage community care and better support individuals. Maytal Eyal is currently completing her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology at the University of Texas at Austin. Maytal has been trained as a therapist in a variety of settings, including a community mental health center, a Veteran’s Affairs (VA) outpatient clinic, and two college counseling centers.
As a certified yoga instructor, Maytal is drawn to psychological practices that focus on integrating the mind and body. For the last several years she has focused on pioneering a mind-body wellness program that has been implemented in elementary, middle, and high schools across the Austin Independent School District.
Prior to earning her Ph.D., Maytal received a specialized degree in Crisis and Trauma Studies in the Middle East. Additionally, she spent two years as a research assistant investigating attachment styles within romantic relationships. For these two years, Maytal traveled around the U.S. interviewing individuals and couples about their relationship patterns.
Maytal’s amalgamation of experiences in the mental health sphere have enabled her to develop a unique lens within the field. Her current interests lie in developing creative and inclusive mental health models. She believes in the power of preventive health care and seeks to create programs that take an innovative approach to mental health and wellness. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx

Okay, yeah, because bearing the grief and stress of everyone I meet is SO much easier than managing on my own and expecting them to do the same? I don't get it.
We need to normalise talking about mental health issues to enable people to get the help they need without shame or embarrassment! I have just started a series on discussing mental health to spread awareness! Love your message and your purpose! 🙂
