Will The Great Evening Banquet Make It To Our Shelf? | A Quick(ish) Board Game Review

Welcome to the launch of SHELFWORTHY – our new video series where we spotlight one game at a time and ask: do we love it enough to keep it? We’re at max storage capacity and own more games than all of our friends could play with us in a lifetime, so it’s time to get real about the high bar that has to be set so we can maintain our floorspace clutter (which has become a physical and mental health hazard!)

In this first video, we dive into The Great Evening Banquet, the new puzzle game from quirky and endearing publisher Saachi & Saachi. We picked it up at Tokyo Game Market, but will it be staying in our collection?

Follow along as we cover as many of our new games as possible!

Thanks for stopping by! We’re Amy & Maggie aka ThinkerThemer. We’re an Australian couple with two very different perspectives of what makes a great board game – Amy (Thinker) is all about the mechanics and enjoys tight, competitive games, and Maggie (Themer) is all about the storytelling and the theme of the game, and the ‘world’ that the designer is trying to create.
Subscribe to our channel to hear us talk about these two elements of a game, and how well integrated we feel these are in delivering a cohesive and wonderful game experience.

  1. Lovely to see you back, ladies. I completely understand about the "1 in, 1 out" rule. My husband and I have been actively culling our collection for over a year now because we were up to about 800 games and for 2 people who do not have any kind of video channel or blog, that is way too many!

  2. I'm starting to have the same issue of running out of shelf space. Doesn't help that all my new games are quite large! Gonna have to start thinning things out too.

  3. The format is quick and snappy, but still informative and fun – what's not to love? I'd say just go with whatever format works best for you to be able to keep making your wonderful content without exhausting yourselves or burning out.

Are you considering the physical box size when deciding what to keep? (Looking at you, Septima, Dwellings of Eldervale, and especially Terra Mystica!)

  4. Hi guys, wasn't aware that you moved. Happy new home!! Were you able to somehow keep your amazing game room and custom shelves?

  5. Still think I’ll pick this one up for my shelf, even if it didn’t make the cut for yours. Thanks for the review! Also I really like your background with the warm colour and lighting – it feels cosy.
