APA MOORE Equity in Mental Health Roundtable: Building Support for Young Women’s Mental Well-Being

Tuesday, July 1st

In 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) released findings from a national survey that revealed a significant rise in mental health challenges among adolescent girls. In 2021, 57% of high school girls reported experiencing persistent feelings of sadness or hopelessness; a notable increase from 36% in 2011. This rate was nearly twice that of their male peers. Additionally, 30% of girls said they had seriously considered suicide, and 13% had attempted suicide at least once in 2021.

This roundtable conversation will explore the unique and shared mental health challenges experienced by young women across populations. The panelists will examine contributing factors and discuss actionable strategies to support early intervention and ways frontline healthcare providers can strengthen referral pathways and connect young women to appropriate mental health services.
