Ramsay psychology clinics are purpose-built. Contemporary light-filled lightfilled clinics soon to be shuttered. An ambitious attempt at high-end psychology services is ending in cuts and closures. The closures might mean that they they just lose the contact with that therapist or they switch to a teley health version each of which has risks associated with of relapse and and worsening of the condition. Ramsey Psychology operates an extensive network of clinics across the country, but from September, 17 of them will close on the back of issues like rising costs. Already half of Australians that need mental health support can’t get it. The waiting lists are huge. And so, it’s devastating to see that a private health care operator is going to close down yet more facilities. And where are those people going to go? Teley health services will be offered to patients instead. But one Ramsey health psychologist told the ABC she was deeply concerned about how the closures would affect patients. And beyond the impact on individuals, there could be wider ramifications. There’ll definitely be re repercussions across the broader system and those individuals that are attending those clinics will will experience a fair bit of disruption. I would say Ramsay Healthcare runs separate mental health clinics that won’t be impacted and in a statement the provider said it understands the change might be unsettling and it’s working closely with psychologists to ensure everyone’s supported. Private hospital operators have been struggling to remain profitable and mental health has been identified as a major pressure point. Ramsey Health seeking to capitalize on increased demand for telly health services while bolstering its bottom line. But psychologists caution not everyone benefits from online support and say health needs to be prioritized over wealth. Stephanie Dzel, ABC News.
