Why Exercise is Key to Anxiety Recovery

I just got back for a run and it reminded me of the importance of exercise when you’re recovering from anxiety. So the problem you have or a worry, a thought, a what if before you do exercise often doesn’t feel have the same potency after you’ve done some exercise in terms of exercise. It is a really useful tool the more that we do it. So, you’re not necessarily going to feel amazing or, you know, fix all your symptoms after going for a one run, going to the gym once, going to a aerobics class, whatever it is that you do, playing a game of soccer. Um, but it’s a cumulative benefit over time. That said, often you do feel a bit better um almost immediately when you do do some exercise, and it can be a really useful tool. It’s a tool I used a lot in my journey.

Exercise isn’t just good for your body; it’s a powerful tool for anxiety recovery. In this video, Samuel Eddy shares how movement, like a run or a game of soccer, can reduce the intensity of anxious thoughts and help you feel better over time. While one workout might not erase all symptoms, the cumulative benefits build up, supporting your nervous system and your journey to calm. Start small, and see the difference.

  1. Thank you for the reminders. I’ve been struggling for years. I was an athlete and after some pretty horrible stuff I was physically and emotionally spent – it’s never too late to get better – we can’t go back only forward. Take courage.
