Texas to Receive $500M for Rural Healthcare | RFK Jr. & Gov. Abbott Announce Major Investment

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. joined Governor Greg Abbott in Austin to announce Texas will receive $100 million per year for the next five years as part of the federal Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) initiative — a $50 billion fund aimed at revitalizing healthcare access in underserved communities.

More than 190 Texas counties, including areas like La Grange, stand to benefit from the funding. Local leaders hope this investment can help reopen shuttered hospitals, like St. Mark’s Medical Center, and expand access to emergency care, behavioral telehealth, and maternal health services. Over 20 rural hospitals in Texas have closed in the last 15 years due to financial struggles.
