And then finding purpose can feel overwhelming with the acceleration of climate catastrophes, the genocide and ethnic cleansing of Palestine, and worsening civil liberties.
I don't mean to get political, but how can we not in this conversation? Finding purpose feels pointless when the future looks so grim. I wish this feeling was motivating, but it's paralysing.
IMO, most mental health issues aren't sources in the individual, but in how society interfaces with that individual's innate differences.
In America we seem to fear otherness, even though we're all someone else's "other."
Please help me understand.
Your kids will develop autism if born to old parents? Or the old parent develops autism after the kid is born?
My GODDDDD I've never related to something MORE!
I'm still living with my parent, working part time, doing stuff around the house. I have a roof over my head, I don't have to worry about instability of housing or resources. And I'm really thankful for that. Not everyone has that.
But FUCK I'm so depressed. After highschool, EVERY career I've tried, Military (every branch), Basic life support instructor, EMT, Patient care tech at hospitals, and now firefighting have all panned out to NOTHING. I've spent years trying to get hired in the field I've loved, but it's just not happened. And even with all my material needs met I'm the most depressed I've ever been, because I am not able to fulfill a PURPOSE.
It's never stops feeling like shit. 3 panel interviews, RE certifying cause that's how much time has passed, months and months and YEARS of applying, getting so close and then fizzling out; as a purpose driven person it has been pure hell and my mental health is in the fucking gutter. I've never felt worse.
dude sounds like ben shapiro
That’s pretty much explains a lot of things and I agree. Finding purpose in life for some can be sooo hard that it would cause a great pain for them
I used to think that antivaxxers were dumb ifiots but after what i learnt and what happened in the last five years I'm pretty sure the think we expose our children to are more dangerous than we think and we should always doubt everything
Dad drank Like a fish and collected car Manuel. Never owned the vehicles. Couldn't leave the house without a drink. Loud sounds = rage.
Just a normal Midwestern guy…
How about trans-generational trauma?
Pls offer rekkless help, pro league player, support for los ratones.
Leaded Gasoline was banned in America in 1996. Gen x was hit hardest by the most polluted air and water in history of the modern age. These things don't just disappear.
Dr K spitting facts! What a gangster. 😂😂
The main issue is back in the day, if someone was showing traits or signs of having a mental illness it was seen as a character trait, people would beat their wives, husbands would actively cheat and lie on the regular, and so much more, id consider that mentally unhealthy, but it was normalised, so when we say people seem to have a higher count of mental illness, its really just the acknowledgment of mental illness rather then the previous way if thinking
Dr k you seem very confused in this subject, youre too focused, you need to expand your perspective
Vaccines….food …water…air
I'm fighting daily for survival. Poverty, a DV situation, disabled, and no support system
My grandmother had 16 kids starting at 28yo. None of her kids have autism. I don't think it's age it's health.

In the United States it's definitely food that paves the way
One thing people always forget is population growth. There are just more people now than a generation ago. If a condition or disease has a statistical prevalence, then when your population goes up, the number of people with that condition increases. Add on better identification and diagnosis, and it just seems like it's more prevalent then previously.
Yes it's definitely true that people are getting less practice learning social skills especially in critical Early learning periods, but that in and of itself would not result in someone meeting all of the requirements for an official ASD diagnosis. Also, that stat about older parents having a "higher risk" of having autistic children really irritates me because I haven't seen much effort to determine whether that is correlation or causation. To me it seems also very likely to get married and have children later in life than their neurotypical peers. Finally, I think it's very important to address the fact that it is diagnosis numbers that are increasing, NOT the number of autistic people, which we really have no way of knowing what that was in the past. However, the fact that autism is highly heritable, and those accounting for the higher rates of diagnosis now are largely from marginalized populations that previously did not have access to assessment or diagnosis, which includes basically everyone born in the 90s or before who was not a relatively privileged white boy with stereotypical presentation.
But yes I absolutely think that our brains inability to evolve at the same rapid speed as technology and lifestyle seems to be doing is definitely contributing to overall rates of mental illness, of which autism is not one. Neurodiversity can absolutely be disabling especially when not adequately accommodated, but it is not inherently an illness.
It's literally because of social media and propagandized media.
Although the doctors claim about paternal age does coincide even with my personal observations, what seems to be missing with these conversations is the tangible. How can there not be an impact of consuming thousands and thousands of chemicals via the drugs and food of modern day living? The brain and body were never supposed to be separated. When somebody prioritizes physical health, mental health often follows. The best way to feel better is to literally feel better. That's not always the case, but often is. Focus on the big rocks. Exercise, eat healthy, real foods, stay away from drugs and junk food, and get enough sleep. This should always be step number one when battling mental health problems. It may not change your situation, but it will absolutely change how you feel about it.
Its from diet chemicals
I think food is a big part as well.
Capitalism and neo liberalism. Simple.

So we're just going to ignore the hereditary component? I mean even if you're like me, where a large chunk of your family is mentally ill and yet you somehow manage to not inherit mental illness, you're still prone to struggling with your mental health more than a healthy person! Genetics is a massive component of mental illness!

I think a lot of the problem is we have to struggle to survive while trying to find purpose. There was a town in canada where they had a universal basic income program and mental health was much better
first of all autism is not a mental illness it is a neurodevelopmental disorder which means you are born with it shows up through out your whole life i am not well informed enough to talk about mental illnesses but the ride in autism and ADHD is because we are actually catching it and most research into these are done for white men which means people of color and people assighned women at birth are more likely to go under the radar and are more likely to mask there symptoms so that also adds to the increase of diagnoses
No, people are still fighting for survival everyday
I think the lack of exercise and physical movement plays a huge part in the development of anxiety, which is incredibly common right now.
I dont think it is mental illness, its medical issues that are causing this mental health crisis.
Sometimes you have to cut your losses with people they're just not worth the amount of money or stress that comes along with them they think I'm abusive because I refuse to talk to them none of them have a job I was paying for everything I hired Labs lawyers drug test and they're just abusing me that is absolutely nothing wrong with me they became physically violent attacking me over the things that they are doing refusing to take responsibility foreclosing physical damage emotional mental permanently scarred my body parts and then they want me to lie and try to cover it up for them sometimes it's just something wrong with people and you need to get away from them I wasted I'm very large chunk of my life proving these things
Then they tried to pass blame two people almost died due to abuse
The economy is bad so the pharmaceutical company circuit is pushing drugs
