Part7:Morita Therapy for Depression – Morita therapy & its treatment
The theme of the Mental Health & Morita Therapy Seminar Vol.2 is “Morita therapy & its treatment. ” The lecturer is Dr. Kei Nakamura (Honorary Director, Center for Morita Therapy, The Jikei University School of Medicine, Tokyo).
The content of the seventh session is” Morita Therapy for Depression.”
We explain self-care for depression in Morita Therapy, following the recovery process. First, the extreme phase, when symptoms are most severe, requires prioritizing rest and letting go of “must recover” thoughts. In the pre-recovery phase, rest and activity are balanced according to the patient’s condition.
Next, in the late recovery phase, activity gradually increases until about 60–70% of normal functioning is achieved, restoring daily routines. After recovery, reflection on pre-illness life and gentle adjustments to daily habits are important to prevent relapse.
