Great, let me just pull a healthy body with zero permanent injuries, a smaller mortgage, a less demanding job, a cure for my eating disorder, as well as all the correct brain chemicala that have a family history of being imbalanced out of my ass so I can ignore medications that help me not want to become a halloween decoration.
This is why Denmark is considered the happiest country: not because the people are on a bunch of mental heath meds, but the country has built a robust social safety net that protects people when life goes wrong
I fully agree with you having been in general medical practice for 50yrs it's so sad to see the medications given for mental health problems caused by what you have said and you end up with an irreversible health problem. I'm so glad there still are psychiatrists like you. God bless
If someone who was forced to take medication explained this themselves to their psychiatrist, they would be deemed as having 'poor insight' and 'not accepting' their 'illness'… which by itself is regarded as another 'symptom' of their so called illness
I still see no one going to the roots of the issue, which are largely connected to funding for mental health programs and other services that help provide housing, access to healthy food, childcare, and many others services people need to live healthy lives and raise healthy families. Not to mention, no one is born with a perfect brain. There's no such thing. Genetics also play a role in our mental health, including what a fetus is exposed to before and after being born. So… who's responsible for fixing these larger issues, and what is the plan to genuinely help others in the many ways that psychiatrists can't contribute to?
Thank you doctor, so true been going through this over 30 years, now stuck on meds , because if I get off I just will have even more brain problems…I was never told how bad Prozac was all these years..
I'd guess 2/3 of mental health issues in our culture are environmental and could be solved with changes in environment, support system, and lifestyle. (And I am not talking about psuedoscience stuff– just listening to your body and having the ability not to be crushed under stressors and having proper emotional support.)
1/3-1/5 I'm guessing are actually organic illnesses that arise due to genetics, brain inflammation, etc. We don't understand all these yet and we can only treat symptoms for a lot of them. But we're not looking at the brain ORGANICALLY to find root causes. We're looking at how better to eliminate symptoms.
Sometimes the root cause is something like food allergies, chemical exposures, seizures, or autoimmune disease/inflammation. SSRIs help with symptoms of an inflamed brain but they don't stop the brain inflammation that could be causing the disorder- which should terrify you.
This is how I feel. A lot of what bothers me is not internal but external. A lot of things that are happening around me that I can’t control or escape from.

Yep. Read Cordyceps the neural network controls you
But most of us face relatively similar stressors, while only some of us go on to meet full criteria for MDD, GAD, etc.

Some of those drugs inhibit neuroplasticity too, which is essential for adaptation required to build a new life with a clean environment.
Say it louder for the back!!
Spent from the age of 13 to 30 on mental health meds that they changed on me constantly. Hated myself. It was a nightmare.
some of these meds are good if you need them. But most people dont, even i didnt until i did and saw the difference.
100000000000000% truth
This is 🎉exactly how mental health was and is treated 😢😢
Dc how heal physicosi naturally?
It is easy to say that but its hard to actually find an actual solution
Wonderful
Yup, they actively seek to medicate people, as pharmaceutical companies profit thousands from each 'patient' who is forced to take medication
If someone who was forced to take medication explained this themselves to their psychiatrist, they would be deemed as having 'poor insight' and 'not accepting' their 'illness'… which by itself is regarded as another 'symptom' of their so called illness
The development of mental disorders is the healthy reaction of any organism that is living in an unhealthy environment.
And then there’s people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia who absolutely need the pills otherwise they will break their tanks
