Alumni Spotlight: Rachel Bryant, Community Mental Health | CIIS

Request info here: https://bit.ly/3S0VDDO. The Community Mental Health master’s program at CIIS trains students to become licensed therapists and leaders in empowering disenfranchised communities. Our graduates are a driving force in meeting the needs of and creating change for populations who have been underserved and overlooked by traditional counseling services.

Community Mental Health students learn to address systemic issues within a patient’s community and surroundings that affect mental health. Many of our graduates are proactively involved with public policy, community organizing, defending the rights of underserved groups, and public health.

This program trains clinicians to practice counseling and therapy in government agencies, community nonprofits, private practice, and healthcare.

CLINICAL TRAINING
In the second year of study, our students develop essential clinical skills and multicultural awareness in practicums at local training sites, including CIIS’ Clinic Without Walls (TCWOW). This unique clinic allows students to treat clients outside of traditional clinical settings, allowing for increased capacity and accessibility.

The Community Mental Health master’s program provides students with a strong theoretical background with an emphasis on practical application:

-Social justice perspectives
-Cultural Humility
-Practice-Based Evidence
-Psychodynamics, Humanistic Mindfulness, and Family Systems Therapy
-Trauma-informed therapies
-Recovery and resiliency models of treatment
-Community psychology theory and praxis
