So much misinformation in this video.
She’s pointing out biases that she sees in her workplace to bring awareness to them and y’all are in the comments mad that she’s addressing what she sees as dangerous in the healthcare industry🤦🏾♀️
These white folks can't help but be racist. Its there culture.
This naive broad lives in a fantasy world lol. Totally devoid of reason and logic.
😢 im italian… Lived in the USA for over a decade. Each time i had to see my psychiatrist she would " by mistakes" call me Maria😢😂….my name Is not Maria. I have black long hair and Brown yes and olive skin….just like any Maria. Had racism esperiences everyday not only with terrible white racist doctors😢
Masters student in Clinical Psych here, about a semester away from graduating. We're taught to consider the patient's background and medical history when conducting mental health evals. The keyword here is 'consider' which I believe has been significantly overlooked and even ignored now in favor of racist behavior 😔
Racism alive and well in 2024.
What’s interesting is when you bring racism up, just about everyone is like “yeah, for sure, listen to these stories.” And yet, when fat phobia is brought up (which is tied to racism) most of those same people are extremely dismissive, and sometimes outright fat phobic. Like, you’re proving the point. We must address all prejudices to get everyone better care. Same for transphobia. People love science and are happy to cherry-pick in an attempt to justify their bigotry.
True!
Also, not just that, did you know they taught and in some backwoods places teach that our skin is somehow different or harder than Caucasians… crazy stupid right?
Its everywhere !!!
Institutional racism is real.
Institutional racism is real.
Watch your thinking, especially under pressure, you can be surprised
When raised in a white culture isolated from more mixed communities
You are immersed with a sea of flawed assumptions and images/stories
Literally I was diagnosed with ODD as a child, which if you don't know, it's shorthand for "bad child disorder", that's how adults treat you after that diagnosis. As an adult, I was diagnosed with ADHD, confirming that in fact, I never had ODD. There's actually a huge debate in the psychology community right now as to whether ODD actually exists at all, and we've certainly found that IF it does exist, it's severely overdiagnosed, especially in children of color.
I know a black man who has 2 science degrees and who flies planes . Yet when he told a ER doctor that, he was told that he was delusional. Luckily his mother was alive and the guy had the doctor call her. They assume that you’re ignorant and unaccomplished. That could be either annoying or it could be life threatening.
But it’s true in all parts of society. Systemic. So sad and poor kids.
Well just 1 of those groups make up over half of violent crimes despite being 12% of the population…The fear is necessary
Sort of on the same topic, there was a study done with white medical students. They were asked a bunch of questions about black people and their bodies. And overwhelmingly the white medical students had racist ideas about black bodies. They believed (very incorrectly) that black people had a higher tolerance for pain than white people. And other sorts of incorrect, ridiculous ideas about how black peoples were different from white peoples bodies.
And remember these were medical students! The study concluded that because white medical students had these racist incorrect ideals about black peoples bodies, the way they would treat them as patients once they, the white medical students, became doctors would lead to black people not getting good quality medical care. And current studies show black people don’t get good quality medical care when they are treated by white doctors.
She experiences it EVERYDAY and still works for this racist facility???
This is why I avoid therapy all together. I wonder if Self therapy is best
there is a racist Psychiatrist in Jupiter Ward terrible lady
Don’t take education to treat people as people, God will handle racists 😊
