The Science Behind The Gut-Brain Connection

Emerging research reveals a gut-brain connection. When it comes to the gut, most physicians and scientists miss what is right in front of us, because we are looking for solutions in the wrong place.⁣

When you fix your body, you fix your broken brain. Your energy, memory, focus, and joy will all increase. ⁣

While this may not be the case for everybody, changing your diet to feel better is a step in the right direction towards focusing on your mental health and creating optimal health in general. ⁣

In a recent episode of The Doctor’s Farmacy, I dive into the gut-brain connection and the Function Medicine 5R program to fixing your gut health.

  1. I think he messed up his math in the beginning with the quantity of neurons. One hundred billion in the brain and only five hundred million in the gut?
I'm sure it was noticed by now. In any event I love this doctor and he is always spot on!❤🎉😊

  2. Hope his upper brain one day understands the difference between billion and million. It is not 5 times more, it is 200 times less!

  3. Every elementary aged school kid knows this. They tell mommy I got a stomach ache and the kids gets ti stay hone…the kid had a test they didn't want to take so now they have a tummy ache!

  4. I used to have gut problems from drinking & I remember being really nervous around people & people I knew it would happen anytime my stomach would hurt from the constant stomach problems everyday since I was a daily drinker & anytime I would hear loud noises it would make me scared af I would be sensitive about anything & realized it was because of my stomach so I cut the heavy drinking & it’s like you come back to life again also I changed my diet from junk food ordering from DoorDash all the time to just eating house food that my mom cooks & boom stomach problems gone & not sensitive about things anymore

  5. I have no idea who this guy is but to suggest some direct feedback mechanism between your digestive system and neural function through the Vagus nerve is just silly .The Vagus nerve is an efferent nerve, part of the autonomic nervous system, that does have some influence over heart rate, digestion, and other organ systems, but there is no direct afferent feedback that somehow controls brain function.

  6. I used to swear that dairy triggered my panic attacks but try telling anyone that without sounding even crazier than they already think you are. This makes me feel like I actually did listen to what my body was trying to tell me!!!

  7. 500million in the gut… 100 billion in the brain = the gut has only 1/20th of the neurons NOT 5 X as many!!! 😵‍💫 🤣 🙈 He thinks we are IDIOTS!!!
