Most people don’t even realize that they have a fixed mindset in regards to their mental health. A fixed mindset can keep you stuck feeling depressed or anxious. In this video you’re going to learn how to tell if you have a growth or a fixed mindset, how to develop a growth mindset in regards to mental health. And why having a growth mindset can completely change how you feel about your mental health.
Carol Dweck, the author of Mindset (which this video is based off of) said “In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work – brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment.”

In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life’s direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/comeuntochrist/believe

❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hi – new to you channel – what would you recommend for youth and teens with panic attacks & pstd?
Seems we cant take mental health for granted – it does require work in these times.
Thank you so much 🙏
I can't just express how much my distorted thoughts, intense emotions, social anxiety have improved after finding you! God bless you❤
Thank you so much this video was so helpful! 😀
FAIL = First Attempt In Learning
Thanks!
Emma I don't know if you would read this or not. But you have literally given me back my life. I have dreams and ambitions that i want to chase now. When i was depressed i had no will to live or do anything. And guess what i have unintentionally gained weight because i started eating more when i resolved some of my anxiety. I was underweight and now i eat well and am gaining weight. I didn't even notice it until i stood on a weight machine. Thank you so much for everything that you do 💜
Thanks for sharing to us, it was really helpful, will be coming to frequently to watch and learn this💥🎊🙏
You remind me of Mary Cooper from Young Sheldon
You know the reason I have a fixed mindset, it's because my parents just avoided me from the mistake or didn't make me learn and grow through it and now ir is coming back to me, I am soon going to be 16 years old and I don't know if I can keep a job but I will certainly try and put effort
This is absolutely superb. I had the pleasure of reading something similar, and it was absolutely superb. "Rising From Within: Unlocking Your Innate Power to Conquer Adversity" by Vincent Starling
So im in recovery for drug addiction. I was pretty triggered today, not to use but i cam accross a situation where somone was using . And for the first time in years i found the smell very. Gross. I wouldnt breath because i was scared of inhaling it. That triggered my anxiety. Would that be because of past trauma or ptsd?
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I tried the growth mindset for years. growth mindsets work when everyone has growth mindsets. it just comes off as being a try hard and threatens others and results in hostility. If I have a boss that doesn’t want me to grow because they think my efforts threatens their job there’s no point in trying.
Thanks 👍
Your lessons are so valuable Emma. Thank you!!
Its all a paradox for me 😕 when you are convinced that a fixed mindset is the way, its so difficult to change that perspective afterwards
Why would I want to grow?
Your videos are so helpful. And i just want to give you a HUGE thanks, i know you've done a lot of work and research about how the human brain works and everything that goes into it. It means a lot to people like me who need a bit of insight when we are lost on our journey. ❤
@anidadron is SPOT ON, depression in seniors is terrible, I’ve seen it. It’s awful. I think videos for seniors about depression, loneliness, lack of social activities, reluctance to use services. I just lost my best friend, she was 88. She spent her last years depressed and confused. It was heartbreaking.
Thanks for the knowledge and information keep sharing good for humanity love and respect from Pakistan
I did this in my heartbroken saga. I try to see my heartbroken as something I can learn, improve and progress
I have been abused for years by my father, bullied for years….Can I completely overcome depression if I try ?
"Absolutely agree! I’ve seen firsthand how a growth mindset helps people push past limitations. Over 70% of individuals with a fixed mindset avoid challenges because they fear failure. This fear creates a cycle of low confidence and missed opportunities. Growth mindset, however, shifts the focus to learning from mistakes and constant improvement. I struggled with this too, and after trying many things, my friend suggested Habit10x. Their program helped me embrace growth, and I’ve seen huge changes in my mindset since!"
I’m so lost in all of this…I’m stuck
I can’t do this every time I hear focus on your values I get so angry as I have none. I can’t focus my mind long to make any of this stuff work and since I have failed so many times I’ve trapped myself in an impossible situation and I can’t take it anymore
The biggest problem with growth mindset and fixed mindset is that people don’t realize that growth mindset is better

A fixed mindset will drag you down sooo muchh it needs to be talked about more thank u
I have never drawn before painting with water color and actually didn’t know that was a thing until someone asked me if I drew it out first. I lost my original paintings in a wildfire and I have photos, but I have never sketched nor have spent hundreds of hours creating a piece. I paint when I am inspired by GOD and create a work in an afternoon only. GOD given talent? I come from a family of artists…
Thank you for teaching us to be better people, for ourselves and our families. I appreciate the lesson you give us to use to become better people and thank you for telling us to change our identity as each person we believe in us. You are amazing and selfless for encouraging us to be better people in this world.
This video perfectly captures why mindset is everything when it comes to mental health. The 'not yet' reframe hit me hard. I used to say 'I'm terrible at handling stress' until I started viewing emotional regulation as a skill to practice (just like learning an instrument)!
Thank you for this video. I am going through a process of dealing with panic attacks and even though I know it’s my mind, it’s my mind set that’s killing me. I want the feelings to go away but maybe I just have to work through them.
Work in progress 🤞🏻
A GROWTH Mindset vs. a FIXED Mindset With Mental Health
growth
Thank u 🙏🏿
Learned about fixed and growth mindsets in elementary school, we always had posters and teachers talking about it but I always brushed it off, and never gave it any importance. I never realized I’d be coming back to watch YouTube videos on how to cultivate a growth mindset.
Thank you so much
