Mental Health Monday from Mark Twain Behavioral Health – Starting therapy
Mental Health Monday sponsored by Mark Twain Behavioral Health. My name is Holly Shanhorse and I’m an outpatient clinician here at Mark Twain Behavioral Health. People come to therapy for a wide variety of reasons and there is no right reason to come to therapy. Some notice a depressed mood or anxiety that feels unmanageable. Others have relationship or spiritual issues that feel difficult to resolve on their own or even after talking with friends and family. Others might notice that a particular season has been difficult or they just don’t feel like themselves. All are good reasons to start therapy. The work in therapy can look different based on the individual, your personal goals, and the therapist. For some, it might be building up your coping skills toolbox to make current symptoms feel more manageable. It might be discovering family or personal patterns that have been hindering both your enjoyment of life and your life goals. Or it might be talking through painful life experiences to gain new perspective or get tools and resources for things like boundary setting or healthy communication. This could be an individual, couples, or even family therapy. So, if you’re wondering if therapy is for you, it is. Most of all, we want you to know that you are not alone and you don’t have to do it on your own. We are here for you. [Music]
