A Radio Kerry presenter has been nominated in the national mental health media awards.

The full shortlist was announced yesterday, Friday October 31st.

Deirdre Walsh, who won an IMRO radio award earlier this month, has been shortlisted for this year’s Shine Mental Health Media Awards.

The Talkabout presenter was nominated for her interview with Tralee resident Nogugu Mafu, who shared her experience of living with Bipolar Affective Disorder and symptoms of psychosis.

The interview was broadcast in October last year and also featured Nogugu’s teenage son, who spoke about helping his mother with her condition.

Ballybunion native Shane Phelan was also nominated in the print category.

Radio Kerry’s sister station Shannonside Northern Sound is also on the shortlist.

Journalist Dan Dooner was nominated in the Refugee Mental Health category for his piece titled ‘Gaza calling: loved ones in limbo’

Winners will be announced on the 3rd of December at an award ceremony in Dublin.
