LINCOLN COUNTY, WI (WJFW) — In 2025 the Lincoln County Coroners office reported a large increase in suicides. In October alone, 8 people have taken their lives in Lincoln County.
The shortened daylight hours, upcoming holiday season, and cold weather can bring seasonal depression in some people. Lincoln County Coroner Valerie Caylor wants to spread the message that resources are available at all times for those suffering not just in Lincoln County, but state wide as well.

“We definitely do have programs that are available through our Lincoln county resource center through our social services and then also with our health department different resources that are available there.” Said Caylor. “We definitely recommend anybody to reach out to those services. They will definitely help in making sure you get the resources you need and point you in the right direction.”
Caylor also says that the constant use of technology, especially in younger people, can heighten depression and recommends being more social as well as limiting technology use on a daily basis.
“We don’t interact like we used to.” Continued Caylor. “Everything is electronic. We’re always doing things online. As a matter of fact there are counselors online that you could even talk to when it comes to your mental health. But it’s one of those where we don’t have as many social interactions as we used to have and so I do think that plays a role in things.
Valerie also says to reach out to loved ones for support and to talk with someone trusted if you feel depressed. The national suicide and crisis lifeline is also available 24/7 to speak with a mental health professional by dialing 988 if you are experiencing suicidal thoughts or depression.
