Enrollment in behavioral health program triples at Sunset High School
A new class at a select few Oregon high schools is proving to be a big hit. Enrollment has tripled this year over last, and some students are calling it their favorite class. The Oregon Health Authority is thrilled with this response as it is their initiative in an effort to address the shortage of behavioral health specialists the state is facing. Sunset’s assistant principal says they’re aiming to double this year’s enrollment next year and will be offering internships to second-year students to allow them to get real world experience.
Some Oregon high schools, including Sunset, are teaching a behavioral health program with the goal of increasing the number of people who go on to work in that field.
