What drives delusions in bipolar disorder and depression?

delusions are fixed false beliefs for the delusional person it’s their truth it’s not just an opinion it’s fact that they think everyone should believe and no evidence to the contrary will make them believe differently the delusions can resolve though eventually as the depression improves or with a medication intervention people with bipolar disorder who become manic can also become delusional as part of the Mania but in this case the delusions tend to be more grandiose in nature for example you can believe that the government is involved in a plot but it’s to use the internet to wipe out society and thereafter you because you’ve found a way to thwart their plans you see the difference with the depressed person behind their thoughts is sadness hopelessness or fearfulness of being harmed with the manic delusional person there’s this theme of power and purpose and you’re at the center of it

  1. Fun fact… when I get manic I get extreme delusional and psychotic for about a month. I’ll have strange beliefs like believing that I am not my physical body but I am the observer that experiences everything that happens to the body and sees what the eyes see. I also have delusions that people are plotting to hurt or kill me. I have a lot of really crazy thoughts, but it would take too long to mention all of them.

  2. I disagree. The government is definitely colluding with the rich to kill all the working class with robot dogs and stoked racial tensions.

  3. Dr.Tracy ! In your spare time could you make a video explaining people with Bi-Polar who are always having conversations with themselves, smiling or laughing with themselves. Also if you could add suggestions on what to do to stop those things? How we can help ourselves?

  4. Its really hard to believe your delusions are delusions because when you have visual and auditory hullicinations im seeing and hearing confirmations to my delusions. Most times my delusions are so crazy i feel someone is trying to kill me but ive learned if i just go to sleep after i wake up all thst scary stuff is gone. But then i start investigating what i saw and it can start all over again.

  5. Exactly right. My Don is currently stopping scam artists who are trying to crash bitcoin. He's also a property developer and a market maker because MM is 33 ..geddit? And if you don't geddit, you're ( which means I'm) stupid.

  6. the thought of not having my mood stabilizers is 😬 during one of my final manic episodes, i thought my neighbor was a demon, and i needed to burn his house down to return him to hell… take your meds people! 🗣️

  7. Ooh! That does help distinguish the two. I can see the difference now. My mom has bipolar, and she'd often have delusions like this that she was powerless to, or she'd think we were conspiring against her. Like one time she asked me if me and my dad were conspiring together because I left a butter knife on the table. She thought it was a sign that tied other thoughts in her head together proving we didn't want her around, and that I loved my dad more than her. I'm glad she's balanced now. It's was hard comforting her when she'd get in those unstable moods. Some of her pain I never understood until I went though them myself, like losing a job that I loved. Some heartbreaks take a lifetime to get over. For my mom, it was a big trigger.

  8. The question is how will a person with these beliefs ever seek treatment? What can I do as a family member who cares enough to not encourage grandiose thoughts to say the least?

  9. Can you answer my question does cross stitching lift people out of depression episode as I have type 2 bipolar get back to me and let me know please thanks

  10. Once you are diagnosed with bi-polar & people hear stuff like this? You have to PROVE every single thing you do. No one believes you on anything. It ADDS stress to the struggle we already go through.

  11. One misconception I think is that the delusional person wants all others to believe their delusions are true. I think a lot of us carry our delusions silently. When not psychotic, I know they are delusions. I also know that they feel experientially real. A life blown up by one psychotic episode can lead one to keep their delusions to oneself.

  12. Our previous beliefs or interests play a role in our delusions.
As an atheist and a man of science and having interests in sci-fi, some of my delusions during my manic episode was that a black hole was coming or that we were actually robots.

I also had fear that the government was out to kill me because I was the messiah.

  13. Nice try doc. The government DOES want to wipe us out through manipulation and tech. You serious? There is EVIDENCE. Take your meds, go back to sleep and get breadcrumbed by doctors and the elite. YOU are apart of the problem MAAM!!!!

  14. Good point but mis-described. Truth is objective. So-called "their truth" is a non-sequitor. Personally erroneous opinions remain opinions. See the difference?
