Deputies from the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office responded to a home in Northeast Bradley County near Urbane Road to assist paramedics with Bradley County EMS and firefighters with the Bradley County Fire Department on a medical call that turned into a mental health crisis where a subject became combative. When deputies arrived, the initial first responders had vacated the home due to the actions of the man they were trying to assist.

A brief search for the man was conducted in the nearby neighborhood with help from the Cleveland Police Department. The man returned to his home and a BCSO drone was used to drop a cell phone so that a member of the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team could speak with the man. The Cleveland Police Department also assisted with the use of a drone and additional personnel at the location. During the negotiations the man fired shots at the drones being used to assist. A peaceful resolution was reached when the man eventually surrendered and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

John David Possien, 47, is being held at the Bradley County Jail with no bond.

His arraignment is scheduled for Wednesday in the Bradley County General Sessions Court.

He was charged with felony reckless endangerment, vandalism over $1,000, and two counts of assault on a first responder.
