LYNCHBURG, VA (WSET) — Horizon Behavioral Health is stepping up to the plate to help people in the middle of a crisis.

On Thursday, they cut the ribbon on their brand new 24/7 Crisis Care Center.

Located on Fenwick Drive, the center will provide emergency services, 23- hour observation, medical detoxification, and residential crisis stabilization.

CEO of Horizon Behavioral Health, Melissa Lucy, said this will be a game-changer for folks in need.

“This is very important to the individuals in our community because it will mean they can stay in the community where they have their natural support and love that therefore will help them get better versus us sending them to hospitals anywhere from two to four hours away from their home and away from their loved ones,” Lucy said.

Governor Glenn Youngkin cut the ribbon on the new building.

He praised lawmakers and Horizon staff for making the crisis center possible.

“That’s what we’re talking about today, not a ribbon to cut, not a door to walk through, but light chasing out the darkness,” Youngkin said.

The center is the first of its kind in Central Virginia.

The building is ready, but not quite open yet.

They are waiting on a license from the state, but it is expected to come soon.
