ASHEVILLE, N.C. (WLOS) — A mental health care provider held a special event on Thursday to raise funds for those in need.

CooperRiis held its first annual “Bountiful Hope Brunch” at the Country Club of Asheville.

The organization runs a short-term treatment facility in Asheville as well as a farm in Polk County that provides longer-term treatment. They started in 2003, according to its website.

According to CooperRiis president and CEO Eric Levine, the need has never been greater for the organization’s services ever since the pandemic and later Hurricane Helene.

ANXIETY, DEPRESSION TIED TO COVID-19 SEND SOME SEARCHING FOR HELP

“There’s an urgent need for mental health services,” Levine said. “Right now, there are about one in five people who have mental illness and only about 56% of those people are able to get services, so the need is enormous.”

CooperRiss’ residential treatment programs have helped over 2,200 people since they began 22 years ago, according to its website.
