🚨THE MENTAL HEALTH IN AVIATION ACT HAS BEEN INTRODUCED IN THE SENATE! 🚨

After UNANIMOUSLY passing the House, the Mental Health in Aviation Act has just DROPPED IN THE SENATE! I am so incredibly proud of our team at the Pilot Mental Health Campaign for the grassroots activism that is making real change.

This bill was introduced by Senators John Hoeven (R-ND) and Tammy Duckworth (D-IL) and has 8 additional cosponsors evenly split on each side of the aisle.

There are some improvements in the Senate bill from the House version:
-Increases funding from $13.74 million to $15 million for recruiting aeromedical examiners, providing additional mental health training, and clearing the backlog of special issuance requests.
-Sets stricter reporting timelines for the FAA Administrator to report to Congress on implementation of ARC recommendations and other mental health policy improvements.
-Clarifies and specifies that the public information campaign must be comprehensive and seek to end the stigma regarding mental health and mental health treatment in aviation.

If you want to help us push this bill through the finish line, we’re fundraising with limited edition Cleared for Takeoff merch through 11/27: https://xylafoxlin.com/pmhc

  1. Xyla. Have you considered making legislation your full-time job? My mind boggles considering what a Tech YouTuber could do in (with, and to) government! Maybe have a chat with Andrew Yang?

  2. If you're watching the whole mess that is US politics from this side of the pond, you might get the impression that bipartisanship is dead, and everything is just party politics. And no, I'm not saying "both sides are the same", because one is obviously worse. All that being said…
Apparently, it's still possible to get shit done. Good to know. Hang in there.
