GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) -The holiday season can be a joyful time for many, but it can also be a source of stress.
Officials with Crisis Text Line, a nonprofit that provides mental health support, say they see people reaching out over different topics during the holidays. They say they see people reach out about things like loneliness, depression, and relationship issues.
“The holiday seasons can bring a lot of joy for many people, but for those who may not have plans or who put a lot of pressure on themselves to do all the elaborate activities, it can be very stressful,” said Dr. Shairi Turner, chief health officer at Crisis Text Line.
If you’re experiencing stress during this time of the year, they say it’s good to define priorities, communicate and prioritize self-care. If you have others around you stressed out, it can help to encourage open communication, educate yourself on the signs of loneliness and depression, and encourage them to seek support.
“When we get energized and excited about some particular part of the holiday, it can be so meaningful. So really lean into what brings you joy during the holiday and worry less about other people’s expectations,” Turner said.
