Carson Tahoe Behavioral Health Services with Jacob Ricks
at bhs we have a whole wide range of services
that we offer we like to call them wrap around because we have everything from very simple
outpatient services with a variety of therapists and psychiatry providers to some intensive
inpatient services as well and we’ve got a variety of programs in between we have several
different outpatient case management programs the thing that we’re the most proud of is that
is our mallory crisis triage center where anybody can walk in 24 hours a day during a mental
health crisis and get some help that they need for suicide prevention we do several things again
if you are acutely suicidal and needing to be safe our crisis centers open 24 7. anybody can walk in
or be brought in by law enforcement or paramedics any time of the day some of those people were
able to help and discharge and get them back in the community some of those people we end
up admitting to our inpatient so those are the services we have here on campus some other things
we are proud of is that we do all of the suicide risk assessments for the carson city school
district so when the social workers in the schools have a student that they’re concerned about we
will send a nurse or a therapist to the school within 30 minutes to be able to do a more thorough
assessment and get that kiddo the help that they need you know i think there’s less stigma than
there used to be but it’s certainly still there i would say that all of us have some sort
of mental struggle on a regular basis it’s a very common thing to struggle with
mental mental health issues so you’re not alone you
September is National Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. Jacob Ricks, RN, speaks with us about the resources that Carson Tahoe Behavioral Health Services provides and dispels the stigmas surrounding seeking help for mental health issues.
