BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The winners were named Friday, Dec. 5, for the 11th annual Parrish Healthcare Stars of Space Coast Awards to honor “stellar work” in helping residents.

■ Space Coast Health Centers for the Space Coast Credit Union Supernova Award for work in mental health.
■ Club Esteem for The Viera Company All-Star Award for supporting the neighborhood and community.
■ Hands for Healing at Eastwind Pentecostal Church for the Publix Super Markets Charities Community Star Award for work in fighting hunger.

This year’s awards focused on nonprofits that support the “social determinants – or drivers – of health” for individuals and the community as a whole.

“All of these ‘stellar’ organizations are our partners in addressing the needs expressed in more than 40,000 calls and texts to Community Helpline and Crisis Lifeline each year,” said Belinda Stewart, 211 communications manager.

“Our ultimate shared goals are to get beyond immediate needs and explore how to tackle the factors behind the needs such as mental health, family and neighborhood supports, and access to healthy food.”

In addition to the winners, the following were finalists: Children’s Home Society and Counselors for Change for the Supernova Award; Boy & Girls Clubs of Central Florida and Neighbor Up Brevard for the All-Star Award; and Children’s Hunger Project and Space Coast Brigade of Hope for the Community Star Award.

211 Brevard began the awards in 2015 to honor its nonprofit partners, and this year’s ceremony was held at the Space Coast Health Foundation’s Center for Collaboration. All finalists received monetary awards, courtesy of sponsors.

The nonprofit 211 Brevard operates a 24/7 helpline, providing information and assistance in times of financial, community and emotional crisis, including suicide intervention.

People reach the helpline by dialing 2-1-1 or texting a ZIP code to 898211. Trained specialists also answer calls from Brevard to the national 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline.

Special programs provide further support for veterans, families with young children, those who are homeless or at risk of homelessness, and family caregivers.

211 Brevard celebrated its 60th anniversary serving residents of the Space Coast in 2023.
