IPSWICH – The Ipswich Public Health Department is reminding residents that they can access mental health and substance use support 24/7 through the Massachusetts Behavioral Health Help Line.
The help line, which is available 365 days a year by call and by text, connects individuals, friends, and families to substance use and mental health services in Massachusetts.
It is staffed by trained clinicians and certified peer specialists, who can connect callers to outpatient, urgent, and immediate crisis care. These services include evaluations, therapy appointments, medication consults, and treatment referrals.
The help line is free, confidential, and available in more than 200 different languages. It can be reached at 1-833-773-2445.
Public Health Director Colleen Fermon called the line “an excellent resource for the community” and urged residents to reach out when needed.
“We want our community to know that they are never alone, and that there are resources in place that can connect them with support, resources, and treatment, when needed,” Fermon said.
The health department determined that there is a significant need for enhanced access to substance use and mental health services after conducting a needs assessment earlier this year.
The needs assessment was conducted to determine the best use of the town’s public health funds. Ipswich is set to receive more than $784,000 in Opioid Settlement Fund payments through Fiscal Year 2039 as a result of the Commonwealth’s settlements with opioid manufacturers, distributors, and pharmacies for their roles in the ongoing opioid crisis.
