MADISON, Wis. (WEAU) – For the first time since HSHS announced it was pulling its services from western Wisconsin, state funding for healthcare is coming to the region.
Governor Tony Evers signed Assembly Bill 388, granting $10 million to go to Rogers Behavioral Health.
That’s the company building a new mental health facility in Chippewa Falls.
This is the first funding from the state to address the healthcare shutdown.
Last year, $15 million meant to help emergency departments in the Chippewa Valley never got released. It became stuck in political gridlock.
The funding for this facility though is set to help fill a gap in mental health care across western Wisconsin.
Wisconsin Act 75 can be viewed HERE.
The portion of land that Rogers Behavioral Health proposed to become a new mental health facility in Chippewa Falls is along Highway 178 and Beach Drive.
Rep. Clink Moses of Menomonie issued the following statement after Evers signed Act 75.
“Western Wisconsin is currently in a mental health desert with residents being left without care in a time of need. The facility will provide a range of treatment options for those seeking mental healthcare, filling a gap we face in the Chippewa Valley and throughout Northwestern Wisconsin.
“Rogers Behavioral Health’s decision to build this facility in Chippewa Falls will be transformative for our region. I look forward to watching this project move forward and seeing the meaningful impact it will have on individuals and families who need support.”
