Construction activity has begun in Silver Springs as Rural Nevada Counseling (RNC) moves forward with a major expansion project—breaking ground on a 10,000-square-foot counseling and community support center that will dramatically increase behavioral-health services for residents of Lyon County.

In recent weeks, residents driving along ALT-95 near Highway 50 noticed fencing, equipment staging, and heavy machinery arriving on a long-vacant corner lot at Lake Avenue and Mono Street. A newly posted wooden sign confirmed what the community had been speculating about: a major new health services facility is officially underway.

RNC, a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC), provides a comprehensive continuum of mental-health and substance-use services, ensuring that “anyone who walks through the door, regardless of their diagnosis and insurance status” receives care. The organization specializes in outpatient primary-care screenings, monitoring key health indicators, and delivering support for rural communities that often lack easy access to behavioral health providers.A Major Expansion for Lyon County

On Saturday, December 6, RNC celebrated the groundbreaking of its new Silver Springs facility—a project that not only replaces its smaller office on Highway 50 but also significantly scales its capacity to reach families, youth, and individuals seeking care.

The new building will house counseling rooms, community meeting spaces, crisis-support resources, and expanded behavioral-health programming. RNC already maintains offices in Fernley, Dayton, and Yerington, offering general and specialty counseling, 24/7 crisis hotline services, mobile response support, and substance-abuse recovery programs.

What sets this Silver Springs location apart is its focus on youth engagement and wellness. The facility will offer dedicated recreational space where young people can safely spend time, play basketball, socialize, and participate in enriching activities.

Licensed counselors will be onsite to assist youth “who need a listening ear, encouragement, help in developing social skills and coping mechanisms for the myriads of challenges young people face in their daily lives.”

The center is designed not just as a place for treatment, but as a proactive community hub—aiming to reduce isolation, expand access to early intervention, and foster positive development among local youth.

Opening Slated for Late 2026

Construction will continue throughout 2026, with the center expected to open by late next year. RNC plans to hold a grand opening celebration and ribbon-cutting ceremony, welcoming residents, partners, and families to explore the new space.

Once operational, the building is poised to become one of the most important community resources in Silver Springs, filling longstanding service gaps in rural mental-health access and offering a home base for crisis response, counseling, and youth support.
