This was CQC’s first inspection since the service was registered with them in 2018.
They rated it as outstanding for being responsive, caring and well-led, and rated good for being safe and effective.
Inspectors found the staff were open and involved people in planning their care and making sure they understood their options.
They were highly motivated and consistently felt well-supported by leaders, had effective working relationships with teams including midwives, health visitors and GPs.
Inspectors also praised the wide range of activities taking place on the inpatient ward, including baby massage and story time for mothers to develop self-confidence and parenting skills.
Gemma Berry, CQC deputy director of operations in the north-west, said: “Leaders and staff at this service should be very proud of the findings of this report.
“It’s clear the service was committed to treating women as individuals and ensuring they receive exemplary care and support during their pregnancy and afterwards.
“Other services should look to this report to see if there’s anything to learn from it.”
Chief executive of LSCFT, Chris Oliver, said: “We are delighted that our perinatal services have deservedly been rated as outstanding which is a result of the exemplary care and support they deliver every day with respect and kindness.”
