EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WEAU) – NAMI, The National Alliance on Mental Illness hosted a community celebration. The five-year event continues to honor UW-Eau Claire alum Corey James Hilber.

Hilber passed away in December of 2012. Ten years after his passing, a group of friends decided to honor him with an annual winter running event.

This year’s run was canceled due to severe weather, but the advocacy continued. NAMI looks to empower people to work on their mental health.

NAMI’s board president Greg Habben said the event encourages people to “think about, communicate, and have an open space where we can talk about issues like this. Educate some things and hopefully people can when they leave here, feel a little bit better and able to support people.”

During the event, NAMI members present different resources and information to continue educating about mental health.
