HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHP) — A Harrisburg man allegedly attacked multiple officers while receiving treatment at UPMC Harrisburg Hospital.

Yaqub Yousef Nassir, 23, faces four charges of aggravated assault on emergency medical services personnel and four counts of simple assault in connection to the incident on Dec. 21.

He was reportedly an active patient of UPMC Harrisburg’s Emergency Department in the Mental Health Pod when he became violent just before 8 a.m., according to his criminal affidavit. The hospital is located at 111 S. Front St.

Police allege Nassir tried to attack the doctor that was attempting to treat him in that department. The hospital’s public safety officers responded to find Nassir had retreated into his room, police said.

The officers reportedly tried to deescalate the situation while calling in reinforcements, but claim Nassir began attacking them. Two other officers arrived, and Nassir is accused of punching and kicking all four officers in the head, chest, and other parts of their bodies.

According to court documents, the officers were able to secure him into another examination room. All four officers received medical treatment for the injuries they sustained, police said.

Nassir was not taken into custody since he was an active patient at the time. Police issued an arrest warrant for Nassir based on the charges.
