Stranger Things star David Harbour has dropped out of a major movie project, with sources citing his mental health as the reason why. David was due to star alongside the likes of Olivia Wilde and Pedro Pascal on Behemoth!, which tells the story of a musician returning to Los Angeles.

A representative for Searchlight Pictures confirmed to Variety that David has stepped back from his role in Behemoth!.

Filming for the movie began in LA in October last year, and David has already shot some scenes with Don’t Worry Darling’s Olivia. To that end, two sources told Variety that David’s role has been recast. As for who will replace him, that’s yet to be revealed.

Speaking to DeuxMoi, a “well-placed source” gave insight into the alleged reason for David’s movie dropout. Per the source, David “encountered a challenging moment related to his mental health.” As a result, he is “taking a break from work to focus on his well-being.”

David has always been honest with fans about having bipolar disorder, which he was diagnosed with more than two decades ago. But that didn’t stop fans from expressing concern for him online.

“I really hope he’s able to get the help he needs,” one person said on X. “Praying hard for David Harbour right now,” added another X user.

News that David’s dropped out of Behemoth! follows a difficult few months. In October, bombshell allegations were made about his marriage to Lily Allen in her album, West End Girl. After that, reports surfaced that Millie Bobby Brown had filed a bullying claim against him at Netflix. A few months on, David was allegedly filmed acting out of the ordinary at a pub in California, and he later pulled out of Stranger Things finale event.
