$180,000 to support the Kinston police force, the move was made by the Department of Justice.
During last night’s City Council meeting, Chief Keith Goyette approached the council about the grant.
It includes one for more than $50,000for structural upgrades, along with a mental health and wellness grant totaling more than $135,000.
It’s gonna help us establish a few things in our organization, including peer groups. They’re going to be specially trained in crisis response and emotional first aid, as well as incorporate suicide awareness training as well as launch ongoing wellness education programs throughout the organization.
Council members say they are glad the department continues to apply for grants, and look forward to seeing the benefit for the force.
