Hidden Trauma | You Have To See This!!

Do you see yourself as overly sensitive? Do have intense emotional reactions that seem extreme and disproportionate to the event that triggered it? In Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) we often use the analogy of a burn or wound to help us understand how past trauma can increase sensitivity years later. When a wound is psychological the people around us often have no idea that they have touched on old wounds. So they can feel confused, fearful or angry when they witness the intense emotional reaction that appears to come out of nowhere.

If we have no idea how to heal those old wounds, it is understandable that we get to work hiding them or trying to numb the pain that they can trigger. And there are plenty of things that do just that. But none of them come without a cost. The price we pay is often in our relationships, mental and physical health, and ability to be at peace when all is still and silent.

If you’d like to know more about healing and living a full and meaningful life beyond trauma, then keep following for more to come.

  1. Rght on sister. and SO well explained. never underestimate the power of repression. and the gift of being finally able to br in a safe enough placevto feel it.

  2. I never ever , smoke , drink or do anything to suppress my trauma, as you mention I see my trauma from other persons and see why I’m behaving like this and try to be calm

  3. Recently I came out of self harming. During this time my mom found out about this and she thought I am a Psycho, than my dad thought I was into drugs. They told me I have mental issue and weird because I was the only one who cut herself in this whole world. I not saying self harm is a good thing, but their statement truly broke me from inside. l started doing self harming because I was getting bullied at school, but instead of trying to understand me , my mom said my mom said I was getting bullied because I cut my self. For this now I can't trust anyone. I can't even empress my myself, in fear of being left along again. Now I fell like no one cares for me and no one should care for me. Now whenever I feel angry, sad or guilty I always want to harm my self for this today my mom told my brother to stay way from me cause I am a mental patient.

  4. It is hard to find people who are safe to open up to that you can trust when many people can't deal with the intensity of emotional dysregulation when triggered 😢❤
