LAKE CITY, Minn. — The Lake City Suicide Prevention Coalition will host its second Waves of Hope event on Saturday, Jan. 31, at Lincoln High School.
The free, public event begins at 1 p.m. with a mental health resource fair. Then, local musician Ryan Sullivan will give a keynote presentation.
“Ryan’s story and music resonate deeply with the mission of this event,” coalition member Ariana Wright said in a press release. “He brings authenticity, vulnerability, and hope, creating space for people to feel seen, understood and less alone.”
Following Sullivan’s presentation, community members will discuss their personal experiences with mental health and loss. Moderator Erik Sievers, executive director of the Hiawatha Valley Mental Health Center, will guide the panel and audience conversation “focused on practical mental health education, supportive actions community members can take, and pathways to help.”
The coalition suggests attendees be 14 or older.
Waves of Hope is designed to create a “safe, welcoming space where community members can gather, reflect and learn together,” the press release states. “Through music, personal storytelling and meaningful dialogue, the event aims to reduce stigma around mental health, increase awareness of local supports and remind individuals and families that help and hope are always within reach.”

Our newsroom occasionally reports stories under a byline of “staff.” Often, the “staff” byline is used when rewriting basic news briefs that originate from official sources, such as a city press release about a road closure, and which require little or no reporting. At times, this byline is used when a news story includes numerous authors or when the story is formed by aggregating previously reported news from various sources. If outside sources are used, it is noted within the story.
