Two Killeen Fire Department medics were injured while restraining a man during a mental health transport after he attempted to harm himself, officials said.
KILLEEN, Texas — Killeen Fire Department medics were injured early Thursday while responding to a mental health call involving a man experiencing a severe crisis, officials said.
The incident occurred about 3:05 a.m. as medics were taking the man to a hospital. During the transport, authorities said the individual retrieved a pair of scissors and attempted to harm himself.
Fire officials said three medics intervened to prevent further injury. During the struggle, one medic was kicked and punched, and another sustained a cut from the scissors.
The situation was brought under control, and the individual was taken into custody by the Killeen Police Department. Charges are pending, officials said.
The injured medics’ conditions have not been released.
