AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – Panhandle Community Services has received grant funding to better assist area mental health programs.
In Texas, 248 of the 254 counties are identified as mental health professional shortage areas. This includes the Panhandle.
Panhandle Community Services received grant funding from the Hogg Foundation to support its mental health outreach.
It will disperse these funds to organizations in rural communities of the Panhandle, where the need for more mental health support is intensified.
Panhandle Community Services says it hopes these organizations can work as a coalition to solve pressing issues.
“It empowers the community to resolve the community needs. It’s the community really digging out what the underlying issues are and how to address those issues with help from the foundation, then we’re going to be in a better place to address those issues,” said Christy Hilbert, communications director.
Hilbert says some of the focus-counties where funding will be dispersed include Dallam, Hutchinson, and Ochiltree.
Panhandle Community Services was one of 11 community-led organizations in Texas to receive grant funding from the Hogg Foundation.
