Eugenio Chacarra has withdrawn from next week’s event on the DP World Tour.

LIV Golf and DP World Tour winner Eugenio Chacarra has stepped away from professional golf to prioritise his mental health.

The Spaniard explained to his social media followers that he has withdrawn from next week’s Magical Kenyan Open to focus on his mental wellbeing.

Chacarra, who spent three seasons on LIV before leaving at the end of the 2024 season, won the Hero Indian Open last March to secure his full-time DP World Tour card.

He has missed two of his last three cuts on the circuit, including at last week’s Qatar Masters.

“After a lot of reflection and many conversations with my team, I’ve made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Kenya Open,” Chacarra wrote on Instagram.

“This hasn’t been easy to accept. Lately, the biggest challenge hasn’t been physical – it’s been mental.

“I believe in being honest about the ups and downs, and right now I need time to reset, heal, and take care of my mind so I can come back stronger, healthier, and truly ready to compete.

“It hurts to step away from competing that’s what I most love, but sometimes the strongest thing you can do is listen to yourself.

“Thank you everyone for all the love, patience, and support – it means more than you know. I’ll be back soon.”

Chacarra finished 36th in last year’s Race to Dubai and has set a goal to win one of the 10 PGA Tour cards offered to non-exempt players on the Wentworth-based circuit.

Previously, he had signed up for Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC team on LIV straight from college and won in the league’s inaugural season in Bangkok.

In a recent interview with TG, Chacarra reflected on his time at LIV with mixed emotions.

“I always said it was a great time of life,” he said. “I learned a lot, I played with great players, but I thought my time there was done. And I wanted to experience something else. I wanted to play more tournaments. I wanted to be playing every week, I wanted to fight for cuts, I wanted to fight for goals.

“I have a lot of goals and I was losing a lot of motivation. I knew it was going to be difficult because I had a year’s suspension on the PGA Tour for joining LIV, but thankfully I got a couple of sponsors’ invites, had a chance to win in India, and I took it.

“Now I’m focusing on new goals and hopefully I can get my PGA Tour card. That’s what I’ve been dreaming of since I was a kid.”
