The 2025 Behavioral Health Needs Assessment is examining the state of youth mental health in Monroe County.
According to the report, behavioral health visits to local emergency departments rose 72% from 2005, with intentional self-harm being the top reason for kids and teens.
The report also shows usage of public mental health services, like crisis hotlines– increased by 32% among local youth over the past 12 years.
“People are starting to call when they are in earlier stages of crisis when they just need to understand what is out there and available and are starting to access help,” said Jennifer Lake, president and Ceo of Goodwill of the Finger Lakes.
The report also recommended investing in the mental health workforce, strengthening crisis services and expanding community support resources.
