Students across Long Island wear purple to help spread mental health awareness.

Feb. 13 is P.S. I Love You Day.

The message started with Brooke and Jaimie DiPalma, of West Islip, who lost their dad to suicide in 2011.

For more than a decade now, the sisters have been spreading the message about the importance of mental health at schools in both Nassau and Suffolk County.

Brooke shared her story at Brentwood’s freshman campus on Thursday.

“We just wanted to change one life, we want one more person to know that they’re so loved and to see thousands of people, knowing that is bigger than we could’ve imagined,” DiPalma says.

Brentwood School District even just installed a ‘P.S. I Love You’ bench.
