SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) – Valentine’s Day can be difficult for some people as feelings of loneliness often surface on a day focused on romance.
Mental health experts say there is good news and offer tips to help navigate those emotions.
It’s easy to compare yourself to others when relationships are being celebrated everywhere, and that’s completely normal, according to experts.
A mental health expert wants people to remember that Valentine’s Day isn’t just about romance. It’s also a time to celebrate the platonic relationships in your life.
“I think, like, reframing the way that we look at times like Valentine’s Day. Like, it is constructed to be about romantic love, but there are so many other types of love. And it’s much bigger than just one day of celebration of love. And so knowing that, like, romantic love is nice, but there are so many others,” said Shauntel Marcin, nurse practitioner for Saint Joseph Health System.
The bottom line: make time for friends, family, and community.
