Dando has been hospitalised following a social media incident in which a fan alleges he sent unwanted explicit videos

Legendary alternative rock frontman Evan Dando, best known as the lead singer of The Lemonheads, has been hospitalised for mental health treatment following a troubling social media controversy.

Dando, now 58, was admitted to a local hospital earlier this week and is receiving professional care from mental health specialists. The decision came after an incident in which a fan alleged that Dando sent her unsolicited sexually explicit videos via social media, which she shared publicly.

The fan described an exchange that began with her congratulating Dando on the band’s recently released album Love Chant and later escalated to explicit video messages that she did not ask for or consent to. In response, Dando’s team framed the situation within his longstanding struggles with mental health, noting that he has faced such issues since childhood.

Dando’s wife also commented publicly, describing the episode as a manic episode and emphasising that he is “really trying to get better” with treatment. The singer has been open about his past battles with addiction and mental health in his 2025 memoir Rumors of My Demise, in which he detailed decades of substance abuse and personal challenges.

No criminal charges have been reported at this time, and representatives are focusing on Dando’s recovery and care.
