Multiple Registered Student Organizations (RSO) at Western Michigan University came together to host a Mental Health Fair for Mental Health Week in the Student Center Feb. 26.

The event was a way to expose students to various RSO’s on campus while also educating them about mental health and the mental health resources that WMU provides.

“There’s a lot of opportunities and different organizations, whether it’s through the university or RSO’s or anything like that,” said Brianna Chodyniecki, a member of Campus Activities Board. “It’s a really good way to get involved mid-semester.”

In addition to learning about RSO’s, students also found the event to be a great way to meet other students.

“It’s definitely an opportunity to meet other people of shared interest and maybe get access to different clubs or resources that you didn’t know existed,” said Soleil Gloss, from the Outdoor Recreation Club.

Gloss also cited getting to watch as students enter the Student Center and visiting the different tables as a moment of community.

Kaden Jaarsma, a member of the Western Student Association, shared similar sentiments.

“I love promoting Mental Health Week because it’s nice to be able to bring lots of students together,” he said.

Jaarsma continued: “I hope that people get more of a sense of how inclusive WMU is. Students shouldn’t feel like they are alone, and they should realize that there are so many students and organizations here to support them, even on their worst day.”

Chodyniecki enjoyed seeing students getting engaged and learning about different RSO’s that they can participate in.

“It’s nice for students just getting to talk to a variety of different students that they probably wouldn’t get to talk to every day, and getting students engaged so they’ll be more likely to attend on-campus events,” Chodyniecki said. “I hope that people get to know Campus Activities Board a little bit and come to our events, or get involved in other ways.”
