THE HSE has launched a free online programme to help people in the Mid-West to cope with stress

People are being encouraged to take small, but meaningful steps to improve their mental well-being through ‘Balancing Stress’ – a free online programme developed by psychologists and mental health experts.

The programme offers tools, which are easy to use and helps people to understand and manage stress, worry and anxiety.

It offers ways for people to cope with low mood, strengthen their relationships and build long-term resilience.

There are video sessions, which are 35 minutes long and they can be completed anytime at a person’s own pace.

Participants can choose a video most relevant to what they are experiencing at the time.

The programme uses cognitive behavioural therapy, as well as positive psychology.

Dr Aisling Cusack, senior clinical psychologist, HSE Mid-West, said: “Recent studies are showing high rates of stress across Ireland with some studies ranking it amongst the most stressed nations in the world.

“I can see the rising impact of stress both in my personal and professional relationships. Having an understanding of stress and anxiety can be really helpful for us when we are supporting ourselves through difficult times.

“The Balancing Stress programme is a free, easy to use and accessible mental health support, packed with information and useful strategies. What I really like about it is that you can choose the sessions that relate to how you’re feeling and what matters most to you at a given time.”

Principal psychologist and course presenter Dr Niamh Clarke added: “Stress affects everyone and this resource empowers every individual, family, and community to take control.

“Whether you dip into one session, a few, or all of the programme, it’s about finding support, practical tips, and reassurance that fits your needs, at your own pace and in your own way. We encourage people to join, share, and support one another.”
