A man who got intoxicated, fell and injured himself in a Tamaqua mini-mart, and then fought with the ambulance crew that was trying to treat him has been cited by borough police.

Harry Johnson, 62, of the 200 block of Mauch Chunk St., was charged with public drunkenness.

The incident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on Sunday in Fegley’s Mini Mart, which is located on the first block of Center Street.

Tamaqua Police said that Johnson was so severely intoxicated that he fell off a chair in the store and struck his head, which caused heavy bleeding.

He then tried fighting with the responding EMS crew to the point that he needed to be subdued and strapped down, police said.

An interview at the hospital, Johnson admitted to drinking at home, then going to Fegley’s where he continued drinking in the store while playing the casino-style skill game machines and fell off his chair, according to court paperwork.
