Parenting is hard. But parenting as a couple, while balancing work, stress, tiredness and two very different ways of doing things?

That can feel like a daily test. Small disagreements turn into big arguments, communication gets messy and before you know it, you’re stuck in the same cycle again and again.

That’s exactly why Positive Parenting Malta is offering Parents as Partners, a practical programme that helps couples and co-parents swap tension and misunderstandings for clearer communication, stronger teamwork and a more supportive family life.

The programme runs over 16 sessions, each two hours long. It’s not a lecture and it’s definitely not about blaming or judging. Instead, it’s built around creative activities, video clips, guided discussions and support from trained co-facilitators. Most importantly, it’s a safe space where parents can speak honestly, pick up real-life tools and realise they’re not the only ones finding it tough. Sessions are delivered mostly online, with some sessions potentially face-to-face.

Parents as Partners helps couples to:

communicate better and work more effectively as parents
strengthen family relationships and ease day-to-day stress
handle challenges more calmly and consistently
reduce conflict in the couple/parenting relationship

There are a few important eligibility criteria. Both parents must agree to participate and attend together, this isn’t a one-parent programme. Couples are also met before the group starts to confirm the programme is suitable. To keep the environment safe and focused, couples cannot participate if they are involved in ongoing court proceedings or private family law proceedings. Participants are also asked to complete an evaluation at the end.

Between 2024 and October 2025, 95 couples expressed interest and were contacted. In 2025 the delivery team was strengthened through the training of 8 new co-facilitators. Demand continues to grow, with 2 fully booked groups that started in January for 16 couples, including group specifically for english speaking parents.
